Current Opportunities

Every year General practice receive an estimated 3000 letters for every 1000 registered patients. GPs are spending up to 112hrs per year for each 1000 registered patients just reviewing and actioning clinical letters.  

We know that a lot of this work can be done by other members of the team. 

We are running a pilot to transform how we deal with clinical documentation and are looking for coders to join our bank and support this new way of working.  

The pilot phase will run to the end of March 2023 with scope for extension.  

 

Responsibilities will include 

  • Picking up clinical documents as they arrive into the inbox 

  • Reviewing documents and picking out salient information (looking for actions, anthropometrics, test results, diagnoses etc)  

  • Checking the patient notes to ensure that past and new diagnosis are coded correctly, and that any actions have been picked up 

  • Messaging patients to let them know that any recommendations have been actioned 

  • Forwarding the documents to the correct team for further action

  • Opportunity to enhance experience of co-ordination of patient care at a primary level 

  • Band 4 rate of pay @ £12 per hour, holiday entitlement paid on top pro-rata

Person specification 

Essential 

  • Ability to commit to at least 12 hours per week between now and the end of March 2023 

  • Ability to learn new systems and processes with ease 

  • Good knowledge of Medical Terminology 

  • IT literate 

  • Ability to work autonomously 

  • Ability to work as part of team 

  • Ability to take feedback and improve/change approach as the model develops 

  • Access to IT (MAC/Windows) and internet and a confidential workspace 

 

Desirable 

  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant discipline 

  • Understanding of the NHS
